Air Opens at Rhein Donau

today 21, June 2021

The Rhein Donau Pistol club is making great use of their electronic targets by holding Air Pistol Open Competitions.  Two opens have been conducted so far in 2021 and two more are planned later in the year.

The electronic targets improve the experience for competitors and spectators alike.  Shot placement appears instantly on a tablet in front of the shooter as well as on a master TV screen in the spectator area.  The electronic match has a maximum time of 75 minutes rather than 90 minutes for paper targets.

After the official matches the top eight competitors went into an unofficial final.  Unofficial because men, women, juniors and wheelchair shooters are all competing together.  The electronic targets make a final flow a lot better and it becomes much more exciting for spectators as competitors chase each other shot for shot.  At both opens the finish was nail-biting close.  For the June open the final was livestreamed on Facebook.  Its likely that the club will need to look at expanding the range eventually as more members join.

Ten of the same type of targets are on their way to the Whiteman Park International Pistol Club, and hopefully they will be ready in time for the Australian Masters Games in October (get your entries in!).
